Ion Exchange and Solvent Extraction, vol. 16

< P> Reflecting the sustained and diverse experimental momentum in the field of ion exchange, Volume 16 summarizes revolutionary advances on par with the consistently high-level research related by this series. This text discusses the kinetics, theoretical models, experimental results/supporting data, and applications for isothermal supersaturation, metal separation via pH-induced parametric pumping, and for ultrapure water (UPW). Topics also include the engineering of activated carbons and carbonaceous materials for removal of metal ions; hydrophobic ionizable organic compounds (HIOCs); the sorption/desorption mechanisms of organic micropollutants in water; and ion exchange process variables on perchlorate treatment. < /P>

Ion Exchange and Solvent Extraction: A Series of Advances

Indicative of the sustained experimental momentum and diversity of current progress in the field, Volume 16 summarizes revolutionary advancements in the area of ion exchange on par with the high-level research consistently related by this series. This textbook discusses the ion exchange isothermal supersaturation technique, metal separation via pH-induced parametric pumping, and modeling of ion exchange kinetics for ultrapure water. Edited by international field authorities, it studies the engineering of activated carbons and carbonaceous materials for removal of metal ions and organic micropollutants in water and includes outcomes and advances from fundamental and applications research.

Ion Exchange and Solvent Extraction: Volume 17

< P> Volume 17 in the Ion Exchange and Solvent Extraction series represents the vanguard of research on solvent extraction. It covers the principles of electrolyte extraction and other subjects of increasing interest to the field. This volume begins with pharmaceutical applications of supercritical fluid solvents, particularly supercritical carbon dioxide. It also contains chapters on liquid ion exchangers and relevant experiment protocols, SCF applications in drug formulation and pollution reduction, exploiting SCF as reaction media, applications of metal bis(dicarbollide) in analytical chemistry and radioactive waste treatment, and synergistic extraction of metal ions. Volume 17 discusses the ion exchange isothermal supersaturation technique, metal separation via pH-induced parametric pumping, modeling of ion exchange kinetics for ultrapure water, and the engineering of activated carbons and carbonaceous materials for removal of metal ions and organic micropollutants in water. Volume 17 cover topics that include supercritical fluid applications, applications of metal bis(dicarbollide), and synergistic extraction of metal ions.< /P>

Punch, or the London Charivari, Volume 99, July 5, 1890

Excerpt: Vol. 99. July 5, 1890. [pg 1] WEEK BY WEEK. We understand that careful observers have noted a considerable amount of disturbance in the House of Commons during the past three weeks. Various reasons have, as usual, been advanced to account for this phenomenon, one eminent politician having gone so far as to hint darkly at the existence of Cave-men (or Troglodytes), who dwell in barrows. The weather has been subject to strange variations. The mean temperature of the isothermal lines, when reduced to fractions of an infinitesimal value, has been found to correspond exactly to the elevation of the nap on the hat of a certain sporting Earl. Dividing that by the number of buttons on a costermonger's waistcoat, and adding to the quotient the number of aspirates picked up in the Old Kent Road on a Saturday afternoon, the result has been computed as equal to the total amount of minutes occupied by a vendor of saveloys in advertising his wares in the Pall Mall Clubs. Candour is at times inconvenient. A prominent member of a Metropolitan Vestry was informed two days ago by one of the permanent scavengers of the district, that he 'wasn't worth the price of a second-hand boot-lace.' On inquiring the meaning of this curious phrase, he was told that 'his blooming head would be knocked off for two-pence.' We understand that the Vestryman's vote on a question of salary is responsible for the indignation of the scavenger, a member of a class usually noted for their somewhat ceremonious courtesy. Those who propose to travel this year will doubtless be glad to learn that the Hessian fly has been observed in unusual abundance in Westphalia. This succulent morceau is now eaten fried, with a sauce of devilled lentils and oil. It appears, after all, that there is no very definite foundation for the report that Sir EDWARD WATKIN is said to be disappointed in the competitive designs sent in for his Tower, because none of them provide sleeping accommodation for 2000 people...
